Delta 8 THC is one of over 100 cannabinoids found naturally in cannabis and hemp plants. It is a derivative of delta 9 THC or THC, the primary psychoactive chemical found in marijuana. It is commonly known as grass, joint, weed, pot, dope, and herb, among other names.

Instead of being extracted directly from the cannabis plant, delta-8 is synthesized in the lab because it is present in traces in the leaves of cannabis. Delta 8 THC is a depressant drug that slows down the activity of the central nervous system by binding to the ECS of the body. Try out Delta 8 products by TRE House.

A Brief History of Delta-8

The use of cannabis-derived products dates back thousands of years. But, Delta-8-THC as a derivative was discovered in the 1940s. However, its complete synthesis wasn’t possible until the 1960s. The research on Delta-8-THC was brought to a stop in the U.S. in 1970 due to a ban on cannabis. The research, however, continued in other parts of the world.

In the early 2000s, an infamous cannabinoid researcher found that CBD, derived from legal hemp, could be converted into Delta-8-THC.

Despite its multiple commercial and personal uses, the plant found its way into the list of items banned under the Commission on Narcotic Drugs (CND). In a historic decision, voted on 2nd December 2020, the Commission on Narcotic Drugs (CND) removed marijuana and its derivatives from Schedule IV of the 1961 Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs. The Schedule IV features the names of highly addictive opioids such as heroin and marijuana, which were placed on the same list for about 59 years.

Future of Delta 8

Although Delta 8 has been widely used in various parts of the world since time immemorial, it has come into the limelight as a good weed in recent years only. The future of Delta 8 seems quite bright as it has a lot of medicinal and regular benefits without any adverse side effects.

Paper and textiles

In some parts of the world, cannabis plants are used to produce hemp fiber for use in paper, textiles, and clothing. Unlike cotton, hemp is not dependent on pesticides and requires significantly less water to produce. It can also provide an alternative to acrylics, which are popular in fast fashion but add microplastics to our water every time they are washed. Due to global warming and water scarcity, the search for a cotton alternative has increased, and the hemp fiber shows promising results.

Medical uses

Delta 8, as a part of the cannabis plant, has been used as a medicinal drug for many centuries. Recent studies have proved that cannabis can be highly useful in overcoming problems such as:

  •  Nausea and vomiting, mainly when used along with chemotherapy
  • When used as an appetite stimulant, Severe weight loss in people with HIV/AIDS, cancer, etc.
  • Use to cure pain in people suffering from cancer and arthritis
  • Used to relieve symptoms of some neurological disorders
  • Glaucoma
  • Epilepsy
  • Asthma

Using Delta-8 to Counter Growing Anxiety

In a study done by Gallup in 2019, about one-third of people worldwide reported feeling stressed, worried, and/or angry. As per various studies, around 284 million people throughout the globe suffer from an anxiety disorder. With the increase in workload, competition has led to increased stress and anxiety among individuals.

Delta-8 can be a lifesaver in such conditions because of its relaxing effect with only mild psychoactive properties. CBD products are effective in treating anxiety and stress. But researchers say that delta-8 can be more effective.

  • The health benefits of Delta-9 come with feelings of haziness, tiredness, and exhaustion. This doesn’t happen with delta-8. As delta-8 binds more willingly with CB2 receptors, it is less psychoactive and helps you feel motivated without losing focus.
  • Delta-8 makes the user euphoric without causing side effects like nausea, rapid heartbeat, paranoia, and sweating. THC forms produce a fuzzy feeling, but delta-8 causes a mild high. Hence, it relieves anxiety, stress, and other mental disorders without any significant side effects.

Legalization and Future of Delta 8

A recent battle on the legal status of delta-8 has provoked local hemp and CBD businesses in the USA to explore alternatives to the product to ensure that they have a product to direct consumers to if delta-8 is deemed illegal again.

With the categorization of marijuana as a less dangerous drug, it is believed that the medicinal and therapeutic potential of the drug can now be recognized. The landmark decision will also pave the route for the legalization of marijuana for medicinal use in different countries.

It can also make governments reconsider the recreational benefits of the drugs. It must be mentioned that medicinal cannabis programs are allowed in over 50 countries, while other countries such as Uruguay, Canada, Mexico, and Luxembourg have permitted recreational use.

However, delta-8 THC’s market potential is obscure due to regulatory uncertainty and the fact that most consumers are unaware of the benefits of the compound. Since it is mildly psychoactive, the consumer base for delta-8 THC aligns more with that for delta-9 THC rather than hemp-derived CBD and other non-psychoactive cannabinoids that have a broader appeal.

Conclusion

The great benefits of Delta-8 sound too good to be true. But it isn’t. Even people who want to feel the psychoactive effects of Delta-9 get paranoia or anxiety along with the ‘high’. However, Delta-8 is a quasi-legal option available online. Delta-8 is significantly cheaper when compared to Delta-9, thereby making it a suitable option for people looking for a high feeling without the fear of being intoxicated. We have seen the rapid success of Delta-8 over the past few years, and it seems to be on the rise for the upcoming years.

Right now, cannabis retailers have brought several products with delta-8 into the market, like gummies, energy bars, etc. and they are gaining massive popularity among the population due to their many benefits. But whether the full potential of Delta 8 can be utilized shortly depends on the government laws and how people receive the beneficial effects of this fabulous compound.
